Frequently Asked Questions
Anything that is actively causing significant damage to your property or severely impacting your quality of life can be considered a plumbing emergency. Leaking pipes, backed up or overflowing drains, and flooding caused by broken water heaters, toilets, or other equipment may be emergencies.
If you need immediate assistance, don’t hesitate and give us a call as soon as possible. We’ll be out as soon as we can to assess the situation and stop damage to your home.
There are many proactive steps you can take to protect your plumbing system and minimize the risk of emergencies. For starters, it’s always important to know your own plumbing system.
Familiarize yourself with water shutoff valves and how they work. You should also try to notice how your system operates normally. What should the water pressure and temperature be like? How long does it take to drain water from each drain? By knowing this information for standard conditions, it’ll be easier to notice if things are different than normal.
When you do notice changes in your system, you should think about calling KC Flow Heroes for routine maintenance. Though we’re an emergency plumber in Kansas City, we also offer regular inspection and servicing for your home sewer system to keep it in great shape. In fact, regular inspections are key to keeping your system operating at peak efficiency.
If we notice any wear or damage, we usually recommend pipe lining to renew your system. We use a special device that we connect to the pipe in question. After coating this felt lining in resin, we use an inversion device to shape it to your pipes’ exact dimensions. Then we use a controlled device that shines a UV light on the epoxy to harden it. The hardened epoxy can totally restore the life of your pipe, keeping it solid and secure to resist future damage and prevent emergencies.
Anyone in Kansas City can tell you that the weather here is variable, especially in the winter. This variability can wreak havoc on your pipes, as lots of temperature fluctuation can cause your pipes to expand and contract, weakening the joints and potentially causing leaks.
Worse, water inside your pipes can freeze when it gets particularly cold. Frozen water expands as it turns into ice, and this expansion commonly causes burst pipes. Our emergency plumber in Kansas City can repair frozen pipes, but there are several things you can do during the cold months to prevent this from happening in the first place.
Whenever possible, you should make sure that pipes and sewer lines are well-insulated inside your home and especially in areas like basements or garages. Keep garage doors closed to keep cold air away from these pipes. During cold nights, you should also open up your cabinets under any sinks so pipes can access the heated air from your house. If you have external faucets on your home, you may want to insulate them with special styrofoam covers to provide further protection.
All of these measures can minimize the risk of frozen pipes, but sometimes freezing can still happen. If you do develop a frozen pipe that causes a leak, just know that KC Flow Heroes is always there to help.
